Great article John.
I saw 'Soylent Green' when it premiered. The scene you highlighted is still vivid in my memory. Frightening that it is set in 2022. Prescient for real. Also, Beethoven's 6th 'Pastoral Symphony' was a great choice. Also the scene with the strawberry jam jar. The small delights, gone.
*This film is also very powerful decades later. 'The Omega Man' is a 1971 American post-apocalyptic action film starring Charlton Heston, as a survivor of a global pandemic. I believe it was loosely based upon a film starring Vincent Price, 'Last Man on Earth' Black and white and deeply dark. I found a DVD copy in the dollar bin at a discount store. It's well worth a viewing.
